Our Core Programs
The Akombe Foundation is involved in various community programmes that seek to living conditions in communities that we serve. These programmes include, education, community health, youth mentorship, access to water, women's empowerment, and land utilization.
Education
The Foundation will seek to mentor young people in the community on various aspects of education. This will not only be limited to school/college going age sections of the communities where we operate, but also provision of skills such as financial literacy at various levels targeting each group as needed. For instance, younger (without an income), populations will be introduced to the understanding of budgets while sections of the community with incomes will get a more “hands on guide to budget planning.
Community Health
The Akombe foundation works on access to healthcare by setting up community clinics to provide preventative screening, educate the community on how to manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and HIV/AIDS and disease prevention. The Foundation also supports initiatives aimed at ensuring that healthcare community centers are well equipped to serve the community’s healthcare needs. It also works on supporting community hospitals with skills and equipment to enable them to handle complex medical cases to minimize unnecessary travel to urban areas for treatment.
Youth Mentorship
The Foundation seeks to mentor young people in the community on various aspects of education. This is not only be limited to school/college going age sections of the communities where we operate, but also provision of skills such as financial literacy at various levels targeting each group as needed. Access to Water
The Akombe Foundation seeks to partner with communities, county governments and other stakeholders to develop well streamlined water supply chain networks as well solid waste disposal options. Specifically, the Foundation will launch water projects by drilling boreholes and providing access to water for homes and irrigation of gardens, thus also creating food security.
Women Empowerment
The Akombe Foundation is committed to promoting gender equality and expanding economic opportunities for women. All our activities are anchored on this overall goal and motivated by the need to ensure inclusive gender policies in all its work. This means that in the priority projects of the Foundation: education; healthcare; youth empowerment; mentorship; access to water, a gender lens will be applied consistently.
Land Utilization
Land has been traditionally been used for subsistence farming and settlement. It has been passed down as inheritance in form of subdivision. The Akombe foundation is seeking to partner with communities and subject matter experts to explore how communities could fully realize the benefit of land. We will seek ways to empower communities to explore business models that would preserve land as single units while providing benefit to those who collectively own the units.
